A Daily Crypto News piece says the Ethereum Foundation holds about $800 million in ETH, spent roughly $240 million in 2022 and 2023, and sold more than $200 million in ETH during 2025. It also says about 8% of annual spending goes to internal operations. It reports that former Geth lead Peter Szilagyi left in June 2025 after rejecting a $5 million proposal to spin Geth off into a private company. Szilagyi and Andre Cronje are cited as saying builders lack support, which keeps the foundation's spending and sales under criticism.
