Newest firstAquark Technologies, founded in 2021 by Southampton University physicists Andrei Dragomir and Alexander Jantzen, built the UK's first industrially designed cold-atom atomic clock using their patented Super Molasses Trap, which cuts hardware by half and power consumption by 90% compared to conventional systems. The Royal Navy bought two AQlock systems for trials and the British Army is working with the company on navigation applications.
ETH Zurich spinout ZuriQ and Infineon built a 3×3 grid of nine individually controlled ions, the largest two-dimensional trapped-ion array to date. The partnership combines ZuriQ's qubit design with Infineon's semiconductor manufacturing to scale toward volume production.
Infleqtion, Honeywell Aerospace and UC Santa Barbara co-designed a prototype quantum sensor on a silicon nitride chip using Honeywell's semiconductor manufacturing process. The handheld device targets precision navigation and atomic timing applications.
Avicena secured a $2 million federal grant to develop quantum-enabled sensing for detecting biosecurity threats before symptoms appear.
KIST led TruPixel, OptiQ-Labs, QRENS and Elixir through Wisconsin and Chicago to connect with accelerators including gener8tor and the Chicago Quantum Exchange. The Global Bridge Program, part of South Korea's Deeptech Incubator Project, covers quantum sensing, trapped-ion hardware, software and hybrid applications.
Infleqtion, Honeywell, UCSB build handheld quantum sensor
Quantum Startup Discovery · Oct 7, 12:00Infleqtion, Honeywell Aerospace and UC Santa Barbara co-designed a prototype quantum sensor on a silicon nitride chip using Honeywell's semiconductor manufacturing process. The integrated optical cavity shrinks quantum sensors to handheld size by reducing the space needed to keep lasers stable. Built using standard semiconductor industry processes, it can be produced at scale across existing commercial foundries. Near-term applications include quantum-enabled precision navigation and atomic timing for data centers and cell towers, making quantum technology more accessible for field deployment.
